Help us save the world…………in more ways than one!

As you may or may not know, a group of 7 is traveling to the other side of the world over Christmas ‘08 break and we need your help!  Will, Beth, Rouse, Lindsey, Braylon, Boyd, and Taiter (yes, it’s weird, but she’s Beth’s friend) are going to South Asia for a mission trip to do the Lord’s work (in Nacho voice) and with the raise in gas prices, food prices, flight prices, we need you to help us raise support by saving your aluminum cans! So, here’s what to do:

  • Drink up (non-alcoholic of course!),
  • Save up (fill up a garbage bag full of aluminum cans. Put the bag next to your garbage can so you don’t forget!), and
  • Pack up (pack ‘em in your car and we’ll take them off your hands with a smile :)

South Asia Mission Trip

April 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Over the past few weeks, we have been posting some thoughts on the Great Commission and our commands to sharing the Gospel with people from all nations.  Well, it has been great to see so many of our Young Adults preparing to go to places such as Russia, South Africa, Newfoundland, West Africa, Las Vegas and South Asia.

In late March, Beth and Will had an informational meeting for those interested in going to South Asia.  However, some have expressed that they could not make that meeting so we have posted the powerpoint here online with some pictures and all the information about the trip.  They are wanting to take a group with them as they go over Christmas so if you are interested, then just let them know!!

Why all this talk about the Great Commission?

March 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

worldHopefully you have taken some time to skim parts of the articles that we have been posting from Dr. Russell Moore about the Great Commission.  If not, then I encourage you to do so.  They may be a bit wordy but definitely worth the time.  In fact, here is the link to Part 3 where Dr. Moore looks at the importance of the crucifixion and the resurrection to the Great Commission.

But why post this on our website?  Well we want to see all the Young Adults involved in taking the Gospel to those around us, and that means you. . . the one reading this post.  In June, Cedar Creek is planning on taking a group to Indianapolis for a mission trip.  Also in June is an opportunity to work with the youth as they go to Kentucky Changers (they always need chaperones and leaders).  Over Christmas, Will and Beth are going to South Asia for 2 weeks and are looking to take a group from the church with them.

Now that the snow is melting and spring is around the corner, we are going to be looking to send groups up to U of L to talk to students.  Earlier in the year, we felt like we needed to begin reaching out to this campus and now is the time to starting thinking about how you can make an impact!  One idea on the books is to start playing Ultimate Frisbee on campus.  If you have any others, comment below and let’s start preparing to seeing God’s glory manifest on U of L’s campus!

Great Commission, Part 2

In Dr. Moore’s second part of his Theology of the Great Commission, he shows us that to understand the radical theology of the Great Commission, we must first understand the root of the problem – “the tyranny of the demonic prinicipalities and powers over the created order, created by God for his glory.”

Check out the full article as Dr. Moore discussed the Triumph of the Warrior King.

A Theology of the Great Commission, Part 1

March 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

RDMDr. Russell Moore, VP at Southern, has written the first of a 5 part series on the Great Commission at his website, www.henryinstitute.org.  The opening paragraph begins this way:

Too many of us think of the Great Commission as little more than Jesus’ way of promoting the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering or of marketing the Jesus video.  With such the case, theologians tend to ignore the Great Commission.  After all, they reason, it is a “practical” exhortation, better left to denominational bureaucrats and women’s missionary auxiliary leaders.

At the same time, missionaries and evangelists are sometimes expected to ignore theology.  After all, what does abstract theorizing have to do with Jesus’ ultimate church-wide missions emphasis–the Great Commission?

As Dr. Henderson has been challenging us to Manifest God’s Glory in our lives, how are you specifically fulfilling the Great Commission to see this same Glory manifested in the lives of the lost?  I would encourage you to read through this series as a way of encouraging you to begin to think about how God can and will use you to carry His Name to all people.

“Theology doesn’t just think. Theology walks. Theology weeps. Theology bleeds.”
